Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to be a graphics genius to be able to create web-ready graphics that are scalable and comprised of harmonious color schemes. Today, applications such as Adobe Illustrator and even Adobe’s Kuler iPhone app have the capability to create crisp and eye-catching graphics. Below are some tips to help unlock your own creativity, so let’s get started!
Enable group alignment
No matter how visually appealing your graphics are, it won’t matter anymore if your graphic elements are out of alignment. Hence, you must make sure that the ‘Align to Pixel Grid’ box is ticked (navigate to the Transform panel). Once checked, your image can be nudged in precise increments. It is also possible to edit stray objects in groups. You just need to click Select > Object > Not Aligned, and voila!
Create square artboards
By doing so, you can ensure that your graphics turn out pixel-sharp on the web. In perfectly square artboards, the exact centre of these artboards will fall at the corner of a pixel. Do note that this is not always possible, but when it does, it is really an advantage you will want to leverage on.
Preview in RGB mode
Many people tend to overlook this aspect, but you shouldn’t! Make sure that when you preview your artwork, the color mode is always set to RGB and the raster effects are set to screen (72ppi). The goal is to be able to see your artwork in smooth vector shapes so you can make the correct tweaks.
Stick to web-safe colors
Color is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of any artwork. However, the colors you see on your own artboard may not necessarily be the same colors that will appear in another viewer’s web browser. To prevent this from happening, you must always work in RGB color mode. Refer to the previous tips on having the right RGB settings.
Leverage on color psychology
When it comes to graphics and web imagery, their success actually depends significantly on consumer behavior and psychology. Based on color psychology, you need to be familiar with how people make associations when faced with specific shades and tones. Find out what appeals to your audience most before even starting to design.
Does your audience like to see smooth curves? Do they graphics to be colorful? Does modern-looking graphics appeal to them? By seeking answers to such questions, you will be able to create better graphics that can influence a visitor’s psychological state of mind, and ultimately the perception of your business. Always keep in mind that your graphics should always promote the need to take action!
Choose the right fonts if your graphics contain words
The text in every graphic must always be easy to read as visual appeal is at stake. A good practice is to use variants of the same font family. If too many different font styles and forms exist in your artwork, your viewers are going to have a hard time adjusting their eyes to it.
If you do not have the time or resources to create your own graphics, no need to fret because simply hiring a graphics designing company will definitely move your idea forward in a hassle-free manner.
